The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (4th Gen) is a 14-inch business ultrabook for people who need a light, portable machine for documents, email and video calls. Its carbon-fibre display cover and magnesium base keep the weight from 1.17 kg, and the chassis is MIL-STD-810G military certified.

The Intel Core i7 (6th Gen) processor runs with Intel HD Graphics 520, and 16 GB of LPDDR3-1866 memory is soldered to the system board, so it cannot be upgraded. Storage is a 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB SSD, chosen above. Ports include three USB 3.0 ports, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, a microSD reader and the Lenovo OneLink+ dock connector. The 52 Wh battery supports RapidCharge to 80% in about an hour.

    I have been using this ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th Gen as a travel laptop between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh for about two months. The carbon fibre chassis is light enough to carry all day and feels premium in the hand. The keyboard is outstanding, with a firm, well spaced layout that makes long email sessions comfortable. The screen is bright and the colours are good for everyday work.

    The unit arrived in Dubai well packed, and the photos matched the condition. There is a faint mark on the palm rest that I noticed on day one, and the lid has a light scuff near the hinge. Battery life is the main compromise: I get roughly five hours of normal use, so the charger goes everywhere with me. The charger in the box is a third party brand, and it runs slightly warm. Delivery to Riyadh took three days, which is in line with the estimate.

    Overall I would recommend it to frequent travellers who want a light, dependable laptop and do not mind carrying a charger. My request to the seller is a clearer battery figure in the listing. Four stars from me for now, and I will update if the battery holds up after a few more months.

    J’ai acheté ce ThinkPad X1 Carbon pour mes déplacements à Abu Dhabi et je suis plutôt content. L’écran est lumineux, le clavier est un vrai plaisir à utiliser et le châssis est très léger. Le colis est arrivé en bon état, bien emballé, sans marques visibles. L’autonomie est correcte mais n’atteint pas une journée complète de travail, donc je garde toujours le chargeur dans mon sac. Le seul détail qui m’a surpris est la fiche qui chauffe un peu. Dans l’ensemble, un très bon portable pour le travail nomade.

    bought this x1 carbon for my consulting work in dubai, and the keyboard is honestly the best i have used on a laptop. the chassis is light and feels premium. but delivery took 9 days and i got zero updates from the courier for most of that time. the box was ok but one corner was crushed. the battery doesnt last a full day for me, around 5 hours on normal use, and the charger is a generic one. fine for an office, just not the all day machine i was hoping for from the listing.
